Pre-Defense of the Doctoral Dissertation
The procedure of the pre-defense is the same for both training types. Before submission, the completed dissertation must be reviewed in a workplace debate, preceded by a text similarity check. The formal requirements for the dissertation are available on the website of the Council of Natural and Technical Sciences Doctoral School (TTDT).
The pre-defense committee must be submitted electronically to the Secretary of the Doctoral School of Chemical Sciences (KDI) using the application form available on the KDI website. The Secretary oversees its evaluation. The committee must be approved by the KDI Council, which also appoints the members of the reviewing committee for conducting the pre-defense. Further details about the pre-defense procedure are available on the KDI website or can be obtained from the School’s Secretary.
Submission of the Dissertation and Public Defense
Following a successful pre-defense, the candidate must make the modifications recommended by the review committee and prepare the dissertation theses in Hungarian and one chosen foreign language (English, German, French, Italian, or Russian).
If the text similarity check of the dissertation resulted in critical remarks during the pre-defense, a new similarity check is required before submitting the final version.
For submission, the candidate must obtain an authenticated publication list from the University of Debrecen Library in both Hungarian and English. These lists must be bound into the corresponding thesis booklet.
The final formal requirements for the dissertation and theses are available on the TTDT website (see previous section).
Before submission, the public defense committee must be approved by the KDI Council. The committee must be submitted electronically to the KDI Secretary using the application form downloadable from the KDI website. The Secretary ensures its evaluation and forwards it for approval to the TTDT administrator.
At the time of submission, the candidate must also upload the dissertation and the theses (both Hungarian and English versions) to the DEA database. The KDI Secretary checks the upload and may reject it and request corrections if necessary. These corrections must also appear in the printed version, so this step should preferably be completed before printing.
The dissertation and the public defense committee are approved at the TTDT meeting. After this, the reviewers prepare their evaluations, and only then can the public defense be organized, in which the TTDT administrator provides assistance.
More detailed information on these steps of the degree procedure is available in the Doctoral Regulations of the University of Debrecen. Program-specific details can be found in the Operational Regulations of the TTDT and KDI, and candidates may also seek assistance from the KDI Secretary or TTDT administrator.
